Note from the Editor of 7Visions Magazine: In the midst of the ongoing global health crisis, the Department of Marketing of Omega Delta Phi is devoted to continuing its commitment to bringing you quality content to provide a sense of normalcy during these trying times. We are aware of the COVID19 pandemic and sympathize and stand in solidarity with our brothers, our Greek Community, our campus communities as well as the global community. In spite of this, we will continue to provide quality content and showcase uplifting and positive stories which will bring light in the face of so much darkness.

Today, we continue our On Wednesdays We Rock Letters series as a tribute to our National Founders, their legacies and the tradition of wearing red letters on Wednesdays as a homage to the Seven Visionary Men who founded our brotherhood at Texas Tech University on Wednesday November 25th, 1987. In tribute to that history, during this special edition of On Wednesdays We Rock Letters we feature one of our newest chapters: Beta Upsilon from Southern Illinois University at Carbondale.
*********************************************************************************************************************************

Entity Name: Beta Upsilon (BY)

Location and University: Carbondale, Illinois, Southern Illinois University

Chartered on campus:  SIUC Chapter Initially became a colony in 2008.

Greek Council: Multicultural Greek Council (MGC)
For the past couple of years, ODPhi at SIUC has been a part of the Multicultural Greek Council. We’re happy to embrace the fact that we’re a fraternity for ANY man, therefore we teamed up with a council that has diversity in its roots. We have bros holding chair positions in the council such as Thomas Boyd, our newest member, currently serving as the MGC fundraising chair.

Campus Presence: Currently, there are 5 undergrads here at this entity. Even though we only  have 5 members, 4 juniors, 1 senior, we make 5 members feel like 15. Our entity members are not just involved in ODPhi, our members are involved in many other organizations throughout our university. We have a bro that is a part of the marching band, a bro serving as president of Hispanic Student Council, a bro who is a part of the theatre team at SIU. We have bros who are members of the Society of Hispanic Professional Engineers(SHPE) at SIU, and many more organizations on campus. As leaders at our  university, our entity members are well recognized and loved by higher staff and students. The most HYPE Greek organization at SIU!

Interesting Fact: SIU was granted Chapter Status on August 1st, 2020. It was a historic moment for our bros as it took our entity 12 years since first becoming a colony in 2008. There  were many previous setbacks, but it just comes to show how much our entity has grown and improved since then. As we say, “Crescit Eundo” it grows as it goes, and always remember to be you (BY Chapter).

Chapter Traditions: We have many chapter traditions here at SIU, but one tradition that really  stands out is our Touch of Nature Service Day. We invite other Greek organizations to join us one day during the Spring semester to help clear out invasive species of plants at our local national park. It’s a very special day for our entity as it really helps out with the Unity here between the Greek organizations. Additionally, we get to meet the new members of the other Greek organizations.
