Note from the Editor of 7Visions Magazine: Today, we continue our On Wednesdays We Rock Letters series as a tribute to our National Founders, their legacies and the tradition of wearing red letters on Wednesdays as a homage to the Seven Visionary Men who founded our brotherhood at Texas Tech University on Wednesday November 25th, 1987. In celebration of another successful National Convention, during this special edition of On Wednesdays We Rock Letters we feature one of our two newest Chapters: Beta Tau Chapter at Portland State University.

Beta Tau Chapter (BT)
Portland State University, Portland, Oregon
Chartered at PSU: June 6, 2014
Chapter Chant: Beta Tau, Gets Down!!
Greek Council: Portland State University’s Greek Life is growing and as such, there are no umbrella council organizations on the campus as of now. However, the Greek Council is the umbrella organization to which ALL PSU Greek Lettered organizations belong to. Serving as president to the council this academic year is brother Daniel Victorio who was elected to the position during the last academic term.

Campus Presence: The undergraduate chapter currently consists of 21 members which speaks to the growth of the colony. The membership is involved in distinct campus organizations and departments such as MEChA (Movimiento Estudiantil Chicano de Aztlan) which is an organization that exists to promote Chicano unity and empowerment. DREAM PSU, an organization that advocates and promotes the DREAM Act, Deferred Action for Childhood Arrivals (DACA), immigrant rights, and serves as a support system for undocumented Vikings at PSU. The brotherhood is also represented in the GANAS Mentorship program where upperclassmen serve as mentors and role models to new students, empowering them to achieve academic success. Beta Tau is also involved in the BUILD Exito program which is an undergraduate research training program that supports students on their pathway to become scientific researchers. The chapter also has in its ranks two Ford Family Foundation Scholars. The Rip City Knights have also participated in their student government association, Associated Students of Portland State where they advocate for lower tuition, lower fees, cultural competency, and a safe campus for all. BT is also involved with Las Mujeres Club whose purpose is to address the needs of Chicana/Latina women on campus and in the community. Las Mujeres strives to promote strenght and unity for all women and to work to achieve better experiences and opportunities. As chivalrous Knights of Omega Delta Phi, the BT chapter is keen on supporting and empowering women in all capacities. Their advocacy and tireless support of their community, its interests, and its membership makes the Portland State University Beta Tau chapter a beacon of hope and support for its campus.

Interesting Fact: The Beta Tau Chapter chants after every chapter meeting in the same exact spot outside of the building where they meet weekly. This tradition helps promote unity, pride, and brotherhood among the brotherhood at PSU. Also, the Beta Tau Chapter hosted the 2019 National Convention which took place in Downtown Portland in July of last year. The brothers were granted chapter status during this momentous occasion and in their own backyard, making the distinction all the more special.

Chapter Traditions: The Beta Tau chapter implemented a “Brother of the Week” award where they pass on the same ODPHI teeke o a new brother each week. The brother is able to wear the teeke for the entire week and the “Brother of the Week” is chosen based on his contributions to the chapter, campus, and/or community.
